Application Procedure

Interested in applying for the Caterpillar Dealer Service Technician Program?

  1. Contact Linn State Technical College. We will send you more program information on the program, Admissions, and housing.

  2. Submit the Linn State Technical College Admission Application (click "apply online" above). Schedule a time to visit the campus (half day visit) and take the required entrance exams. Scheduling will be through the Admissions Office and they can be contacted at 1-800-743-8324. The priority application deadline for the fall program is the preceding February 1 of that year.

  3. Applicants who meet the minimum test score requirements will be contacted for an interview with their potential Cat dealer sponsor during the month of March.

  4. During the interview, the dealer will take into account your placement scores, your attitude, character, and willingness to learn.

  5. If you are admitted into the program, the college Admissions Office will contact you with specific information about your dealer sponsor and registration. Now you’re ready to start a rewarding career!

Additional Application Requirements:

  1. Submit the completed High School Attendance Record from signed by your high school counselor.  Transfer students and students who earned GEDs rather than high school diplomas do not need to submit the high school attendance record form.
  2. Take a mechanical comprehension and apparatus test.  Contact the Office of Admissions to schedule your testing appointment.  Students must successfully complete either ACT or COMPASS testing prior to taking he mechanical test.
  3. Include on your application any related experience you have to the CAT Dealer Service Technician filed.  This may include work experience or extra-curricular activities such as FFA, SkillsUSA, Boy Scouts/Eagle Scout, etc.
  4. Applicants may be contacted for an interview by the appropriate CAT dealer sponsor.

For priority consideration in the CAT Dealer Service Technician program, all of these items must be received by the Office of Admissions by March 1.  Candidates may submit applications after March 1, but those applications will not be given preference.  Applications will be accepted until the program is full.
