The PTA program equips you with the necessary skills and training to become immediately employed in various physical therapy settings such as hospitals, rehabilitation facilities, long-term care facilities, home health care, clinics, and school systems.  The role of

supervision of a physical therapist in direct patient care, which can include implementing treatment programs, training patients in exercises and the activities of daily living, and documenting patients’ progress.

Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) of the American Physical Therapy Association.

Associate of Applied Science

Additional Application Requirements:

  • Two verifications of observation experience 40 hours of volunteer work or observation in two physical therapy settings. (Use link below-"Verification of Observation/Job-Related Experience Form").

  • Three completed recommendations using the Confidential Evaluation of Applicant form (see link below).

  • A 1-2 page, typed personal essay is required to evaluate communication skills.  Topics may include how you became interested in the field of physical therapy, what qualities you as an individual could contribute to the profession, your past personal experiences involving the healthcare system and/or rehabilitation, etc.

  • Personal essay

  • ACT composite score greater than 18

  • Applicants may be contacted for an interview.

  • Official transcripts for High School and any college(s) attended are required.


For priority consideration in the Physical Therapist Assistant program, all of these items must be received by the Office of Admissions by March 1.  Candidates may submit applications after March 1, but those applications will not be given preference.  Applications will continue to be accepted until June 1st or until the program is full.
