PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

This is to provide you with information about our policy on ordering tools through the Linn State Technical College Bookstore. The bookstore offers a set of required tools for each program. You have the option to purchase your tools directly from the College Bookstore or on your own from other vendors. If you are planning on purchasing your tool set through Linn State Technical College there is some information you need to know:

1. A 10% non-refundable deposit is required on all tools at the time of order. This deposit will be placed on your student account and will be used toward the purchase price of the tool set. Tools will only be held for that school year. If they are not picked up before the end of the Spring semester the deposit will be forfeited and the tool set resold.
2. After the tools arrive, they must be paid for in full before you will be allowed to pick them up. Student’s using a student loan will have to wait 30 days until after classes start to apply the loan money toward the purchase. However, most of the programs will not require the tools until 30 days after classes start. Students on programs such as VR, VA/VR, JTPA, etc. can pick up their tools as soon as they have been given authorization, but not until after the first day of classes.
3. If you are planning to purchase your tools through the College Bookstore, we recommend that you send in a deposit as soon as possible. The later you wait the longer it will take to get the tools here. If you wait until the first day of classes or even a week before school starts the more likely it will be that your tools will not be here on time. It takes approximately four to six weeks to get the tools in after they are ordered, on occasion a little longer.
4. You may want to consider adding your student’s tools to your homeowner’s insurance policy while they are enrolled in school. The college doesn't provide insurance for student owned tool sets.
