Contemporary cottage
The first residential cottages for Linn State
Technical College opened in the Fall of 2000. The Linn State Technical College
Housing Community has a maximum occupancy of 144 residents. Students are housed
in nine cottages, which have eight rooms each. The rooms are available as double
occupancy or single occupancy units. Single rooms are available at a premium
cost, based upon availability. Residents have access to a variety of meal plan
options provided by the Linn State Technical College Cafeteria. Residents must
purchase a meal plan. Prices for rooms and meal plans can be obtained from the

Each room comes furnished with a Microfridge, 2 bunkable beds, two desks with
built in lamps, two chairs, closet space, dresser (s), under bed storage, and a
private bath. Local phone, digital cable TV, high-speed Internet access,
electricity, trash, and water are all included in the housing rate. Ground
source heat pumps provide year round comfort for cooling and heating. Students
have limited control over their ground source heat pump for climate control.
Each room has a private bathroom, which includes a toilet, sink, storage space,
vanity mirror, and a shower. If you would like to see some pictures of the
housing complex including a typical room, please visit our

Outdoor lighting in the housing community is generous and emergency phone access
is available outside of the Commons. Security Cameras are also available
throughout the housing complex.
Near the Commons building is a mini park with Basketball goals, Volleyball
court, BBQ grills, horseshoe pits, and picnic tables.
The Commons is a shared facility belonging to all nine cottages and their
residents. There are several amenities in the Commons: resident mailboxes,
coin-operated washers and dryers, vending machines, a change machine, cable TV,
magazine rack, sofa, a full service kitchen, pool table, foosball table,
ping-pong table, air hockey table, a weight bench and restrooms. Students and
their guests share the space and keep it in good order. The Commons is also the
location of the housing front desk and the Resident Manager’s office and
apartment. The Resident Manager supervises students who serve as Resident
Assistants. Resident Assistants supervise the cottage’s activities.
The Resident Assistant (RA) assists the Resident Manager in the supervision of
property, residents, and activities for the cottage in which they live and in
the Commons as assigned by and under the supervision of the Resident Manager.
The RA also assists the Resident Manager with the enforcement of Rules
and Regulations.
Housing students have a governance body; the Residential Governance Association
(RGA). RGA is an affiliate of the Student Government Association (SGA). RGA has
four elected officers: President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
These officers work hand-in-hand with the SGA and the Resident Assistants. The
primary objective is to develop and maintain a sense of community within the
on-campus housing system. This is done through resident activities, fundraisers,
and meetings.
Only students enrolled, in good standing, at Linn State Technical College,
living as single individuals (housing for married couples, couples, and/or
families is available in the surrounding community) may reside in the on-campus
residential cottages. If interested in applying follow the instructions of the
Application Process.
For students who do not plan to live in student housing, information is
available from the Dean of Student Services on housing opportunities within the
community. The college does not evaluate such individual student housing, and
merely provides a referral service.
All students provide their local address to the college and will have the
responsibility of informing the college of any change that is made in housing.
