Linn State hosts counselors, awards $1,500 in tuition waivers
On Friday, January 28, Linn State Technical College (LSTC) welcomed 27 counselors throughout the state of Missouri for the LSTC Counselor Forum. Those in attendance included A+ Coordinators, high school counselors and a career center counselor.
The goal of the forum was to provide counselors an opportunity to network and learn more about Linn State in an effort to help students with their college decisions.
In addition to a full campus tour, Linn State faculty and staff provided several presentations pertaining to initiatives unique to Linn State such as future drug screening and the success of AJA@™LSTC. Other topics included the A+ Program, articulation agreements, career services and upcoming events available on campus, such as Computer Professions on Demand (CPOD) for high school students and Mother-Daughter Construction Day for girls in grade school.
Dr. Donald Claycomb, Linn State president, addressed the counselors during lunch and shared initiatives Linn State has implemented to ensure a student’s success while attending Linn State.
The forum concluded with the awarding of door prizes, including two tuition waivers valued at $1500 for counselors and coordinators to award to the student of each recipient’s choice.
Rebecca Fallon, college advisor, and Michelle Ray, counselor, at Crawford County R-I in Bourbon, MO received the $500 tuition waiver. Lisa Nevels, counselor at Lexington R-V in Lexington, MO won the $1,000 tuition waiver.
With more than 35 programs, Linn State Technical College is Missouri’s only public two-year technical college with a statewide mission. LSTC prepares students for profitable employment and a life of learning. LSTC has three locations in Linn, Mexico and Jefferson City.
